New Class Sessions begin August 4, 2008
For the sixth season, Young at Heartland strives to build an ensemble of seniors who share the values of continuing education, creative self-expression, and community outreach. Class sessions are dedicated to the study of the craft of acting, culminating in performances at senior activity centers in the area. Ensemble members will collaborate with the instructor in choosing appropriate material to be memorized or performed as a reading, and then coached by the instructor to prepare for performances.
Young at Heartland’s core value is to accommodate and support performers’ comfort levels with memorization and limited physical capabilities. We aim to find appropriate pathways to showcase performers’ gifts in a fun, stress-free atmosphere.
Eight 90-minute acting workshop sessions for persons 55 and older, will be held at Heartland Theatre Company taught by D. Ann Jones, experienced theatre instructor in Central Illinois.
The workshop’s objective is “to develop confidence to audition and appear in theatrical productions.” The fundamentals of character creation and text interpretation will be explored, as well as techniques for relieving the tension of performing in public.
